NEW COURT MONITORING PROJECT LAUNCHED BY THE HELSINKI ASSOCIATION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOLIDARITY FUND PL
“Helsinki Association” human rights defender NGO invites high school and university students interested in human rights, fair trial and court monitoring issues to participate in “Towards transparent judiciary and respecting human rights: multiplying effects to Syunik region in Armenia” project.
The project aims:
- to initiate in Syunik region of Armenia (in particular, in the cities of Kapan and Goris) investing and disseminating the results and good experiences of the court monitoring and judicial reforms projects implemented in involvement with young people in Yerevan, Shirak and Lori regions, through legal capacity building, and experience exchange/public debates with decision makers involved;
- to continue encouraging the participation of young boys and girls in Yerevan, Shirak and Lori regions in civil control and court monitoring activities; and
- to widely publicize and advocate the results achieved,
so that to contribute to the implementation of civil control and monitoring in the courts in order to improve functioning of judicial institutions in Armenia.
The project has launched since the 1st of April, 2023 and will last four months.
In the second month of the project implementation, after the young people involved will have capacity-building training, they will visit local courts and, at the head of the organization’s experienced court monitors, will conduct observations of criminal case trials, to continue acquiring and developing practical legal knowledge and skills in court monitoring.
At the end of the project, based on the results obtained through monitoring, proposals for judicial system reforms will be developed, and a report will be drawn up.
