Hearing of “Jamanak” Newspaper Began and Ended Immediately

The hearing began earlier than the appointed time, with the judge deciding that the case hearings were over and then set a day for judgement on June 6th 2011. Defence attorney N. Baghdasaryan, who came to the hearing at the appointed time for the hearing, was unable to file a petition to the court. According to Baghdasaryan, the content of the petition could have significant influence on the course of the case. The attorney then tried to file a written petition.On May 5th 2011 the general jurisdiction court of Kentron and Nork-Marash districts was supposed to have announced a judgement on the claim of Bella and Sedrak Kocharyan against “Jamanak” daily, but. Judge Melkumyan had decided to resume the case on May 20th.On December 9th 2010, the Kocharyan family filed a claim against “Jamanak” daily, accusing the newspaper of defamation. They demanded 6 million AMD as compensation from the newspaper – 3 million for court expenses and 3 million as compensation for moral damage.
