Ombudsman cannot protect people from non-state bodies

According to www.tert.am, Andreasyan announced that he could personally assist individuals if their rights have been infringed by the following institutions: the State Cadastre, the Service for the Compulsory Enforcement of Judicial Acts, the police, the Prosecutor’s Office, the military, penitentiary institutions, the State Employment Inspection, the Civil Acts Registration Agency, the State Revenue Committee, the Social Security Service, as well as local self-government bodies.

Asked whether the human rights defender could protect media representatives from oligarchs or Members of Parliament, he replied his office would not be eligible to protect people from non-state bodies. According to the ombudsman, a MP is not state body, but in case a journalist has a complaint on Court malpractice, s/he could apply to the ombudman’s office.
