The South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders welcomes the Recommendation 1866 (2009) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe about the situation of human rights defenders in Council of Europe member states and joins the Assembly’s call upon the Council of Europe to further increase its contribution to the protection of human rights defenders and their work. Therefore, the criminal case against S. Harutyunyan was discontinued. According to the judge’s decision S. Harutyunyan was in a mental hospital for rather a long time. He had been taken there forcibly in order to undergo forensic-medical examination.
