  Eighty-two persons belonging to Jehovah Witnesses religious group are currently detained in Armenia. Seventy-two of them are already serving their prison terms for evasion from military service as provided by Article 321 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. This runs counter to the PACE Resolutions on Armenia, which clearly state about the inadmissibility of deprivation of liberty for a refusal to enroll due to religious convictions. On June, 26 the whole democratic world celebrates the International Day In Support of Victims of Torture. Helsinki Association expresses its support to the victims of torture not only in Armenia, but worldwide. Helsinki Association states that despite the fact that the Armenian authorities signed under international documents which prohibit torture and other cruel and inhuman treatment, no changes has been made in this regard.
